About the Department:

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering was established in the year 1996 with an intake of 60 in B.Tech. Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE). The intake was increased to 120 in the year 2007 and subsequently to 180 and 240 from the years 2012 and 2014 respectively. The department is also offering M.Tech programmes with specialization in Electrical Power Systems (EPS) and Power Electronics and Drives (PED). The M.Tech. (EPS) programme was started from the year 2004 with an intake of 18 and was increased to 24 and 36 in the years 2013 and 2014 respectively. The M.Tech. (PED) programme is started from the year 2017 with an intake of 18. With the advent of Autonomous status, the course pattern has been significantly revised in pace with modern trends and demands of present day. The department was recognized as Research centre by JNTU Anantapur, Anatapuramu from the year 2013. The Department is headed by Dr. T. Nageswara Prasad, with 19 years teaching and 9 years of research experience and is ably supported by 64 Faculty members, which includes 13 Ph.D. holders and rest all with M.Tech. Qualification, maintaining 1:13 Faculty : Student ratio and the department is supported by ten non-teaching staff. The department faculty has been the front-liners in the research and consultancy activities. Both the prgrammes B.Tech. (EEE) and M.Tech. (EPS) being offered by the department were Accredited by NBA. The department is honored with the prestigious grants of over Rs. 20 Lakhs under MODROBS scheme of AICTE. The department also has the credit of organizing Two-Week, Three- Two- and One-Day training programmes like FDPs, Workshops, Conferences etc., with sponsorship from various funding agencies.

The department continuously coordinates with the college placement cell to provide open opportunities for the students in every domain of software development and core areas of electrical and electronics engineering. A very good number of the students were placed in various prestigious companies such as Microsoft, Infosys, WIPRO, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Mahindra Satyam, Convergys, Virtusa, Cybernet-Slash Support, Rofous Software etc., through campus placements. Students were also offered paid internships by companies like PRDC, Efftronics, Amphenol India Pvt., Ltd.,. This is the testimony of the quality of education being imparted to students. In addition to these, the Alumni of EEE are working as IES officers, Managers, Academicians, Engineers for top MNCís, National Companies and academic organizations like Google, Power Grid, NTPC, State Electricity Generation, Transmission and Distribution Companies, NITs, UPSC etc.,. Also, the Alumni have pursued and pursuing M.Tech. and Ph.D. at IITs, NITs of India and other foreign universities. Students of B.Tech. (EEE) and M.Tech. (EPS) are also recipients of Pratibha awards every year constituted by Govt. of Andhra Pradesh since 2015.

Faculty and Staff:
The department has a blend of faculty with high qualification and rich experience in academics and research. Thirteen faculty members in the department are having doctoral degrees and have expertise in various fields of electrical engineering. The broad areas of expertise include Power System Operation, Protection and Control, Power Electronics and Drives, Control systems, Microgrid, Smart Grid etc.,

Facilities and activities in the Department:
Department has well equipped laboratories with a total investment of more than 1 Crore. The department has been organizing a number of short-term training programs, seminars, workshops, guest lectures by experts and student fests frequently. Faculty members are encouraged to participate in short-term courses and workshops sponsored by the management of SVEC.

Electrical Technical Association (ETA) is a students' body for conducting career development programs to enhance interpersonal and intrapersonal skills of students. It organizes Seminars, Quiz Programmes, Industrial Visits, Paper Contests, Group Discussions, Guest Lectures, Career Guidance, Games etc., under its auspices.

Students are encouraged to present papers and participate in seminars conducted in other engineering colleges and premier institutes. Industrial tours are arranged for students to obtain exposure to industries. Many of our alumni are pursuing their higher studies in IITs, NITs and globally reputed universities. Good number of students are being placed in reputed companies every year through campus placements.

Reputed student chapters like IEEE and ISTE are fully functional in the department. A variety of academic activities are being conducted under the auspices of these chapters. The institution has subscription to on-line journals viz., IEEE, Springer, Elsevier etc.,. In addition to these, Alumni Chapter is in existence, where department interacts with them and gets feedback with regard to academic, placements matters. Their suggestions are taken into consideration in various developmental activities of the department.
