Under Graduate : B.Tech. (Electronics and Communication Engineering)

Post Graduate : (1) DECS (Digital Electronics and Communication Systems)

                     (2) VLSI

HOD Prof. Dr. C.Subhas

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was established in the year 1996 along with the College with a modest intake of 60 in its UG programme.  The intake has been increased to 120 in the year 2000, besides an additional 10% under lateral entry scheme.

The Department has two PG programmes namely Digital Electronics and Communication Systems (DECS) started in the year 2008 & VLSI in 2009 with intake of 18 in each programme.

The department is accredited by NBA of AICTE for 3 years starting from March 2007.

Faculty & Staff
The Department is adequately staffed with 33 faculty members with 13:1 student faculty ratio, exceeding the requirements of AICTE norms.  Most of the faculty members are with Ph.D. and PG qualifications.  The Department is also supported with nine non-teaching staff.

Physical Facilities
The Department has a state of the art laboratory which includes IC Applications Lab, Pulse & Digital Circuits Lab, ECAD/DSP Lab, Microprocessors Lab, Communications Lab and Computing facility. The department also has HDL and Mixed Signal Labs for PG Programmes. The laboratories are equipped with sophisticated and modern equipment costing more than Rs. 70 lakhs.  The significant equipment in the laboratories include Spectrum Analyzer, Digital Storage Oscilloscopes, Spartan 3E (FPGA) kits, 8086 and 8051 kits, etc. The labs are also equipped with Softwares like MULTISIM, VHDL and Xilinx ISE Foundation.

Department Library

The Department has 10 class rooms for Lectures / Tutorials. All classrooms are equipped with Glass make Black board which are echo free with good ventilation. Each Classroom size is in the range of 75 to 100 Sq. M with 26 benches.

The Department has its own Library in addition to the Central Library with 451 Titles totaling to 644 Volumes, Audio Visual Multimedia CDs, Conference Proceedings, Magazines and IEEE Transactions.

Overhead and LCD projectors are used as modern teaching aids.

Departmental Advisory Committee
The Department has an Advisory Committee constituted with the following members:
1. Prof. G. Ramachandra Reddy, Professor of ECE, SV University College of
    Engineering, Tirupati
2. Sri. T. V. Chandrasekhar Sarma, Scientist / Engineer – SE, NARL, Gandanki
3. HOD, ECE (Chairman)
4. Prof. K. P. Prasad, Professor, Dept. of ECE.

It meets once in a year to discuss and implement the academic matters for improvement of standards of the Department.

Activities of the Department:

The Department regularly organises Guest Lectures, Expert Lectures, Seminars, and Add–on Courses for the students. The Department invites experts from industry and reputed institutions to deliver lectures on topics of current interest.

The Department conducts Faculty Development Programmes, Workshops, and Seminars regularly for the faculty. The faculty are sponsored for the above programmes and conferences organized by other colleges. The faculty is also encouraged to pursue their M. Tech. / Ph. D. programmes. Faculty members are given incentives for achieving 100% and 95% and above results in University examinations in the subjects taught by them. The Department owes to the initiatives and enthusiasm of its students and faculty for its activities and progress all these years.

Major programmes organized by the Department of ECE includes a AICTE Sponsored Two day National Seminar on “Embedded & VLSI  Systems Design” for the faculty.

Students
The department has students’ technical forum called Association of Communication Majors and Enthusiasts (ACME). It organizes co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as Seminars, Quizzes, Group Discussions, painting competitions, Debates, Mock Interviews, Aptitude Tests etc.

Our students are encouraged to participate in various events organized by other colleges. The department reimburses one way fare to the prize winners. Our students win modest number of prizes.

The Department constitutes two gold medals every year for its outgoing students with best performance in university examinations. Our students have won good number of university gold medals and achieved top ranks in competitive examinations.

Around 250 alumni of the Department are pursuing their higher education in India and abroad.  More than 600 alumni are placed in popular organizations, both in public and private sectors.  About 216 alumni of the Department are placed through Training and Placement Centre of the College during the last three years.
