The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was established in the year 1996 along with the College with a modest intake of 60 in its UG programme. The intake has been increased to 120 in the year 2000, besides an additional 20% under lateral entry scheme.
The Department has three PG programmes namely Digital Electronics and Communication Systems (DECS) started in the year 2008, VLSI in 2009 and Communication Systems (Comm. Sys) in 2011 with an intake of 18 in each programme.
The department is accredited by NBA of AICTE for 3 years starting from March 2007 and applied for reaccreditation.
Faculty & Staff
The department is headed by Dr. C. Subhas who has over 26 years of experience in various fields like teaching, industry (India and abroad), research and administration. The Department is adequately staffed with 38 faculty members with 13:1 student faculty ratio, exceeding the requirements of AICTE norms. The department has 5 Professors, 3 Associate Professors and 30 Assistant Professors. Most of the faculty members have either Ph.D. or PG qualifications. The Department is also supported with eight non-teaching staff.
Physical Facilities
The Department has the state of the art laboratories which include IC Applications Lab, Pulse & Digital Circuits Lab, ECAD/DSP Lab, Microprocessors Lab, Communications Lab and Computing facility. The department also has HDL, Mixed Signal and Communications Labs for PG Programmes. The laboratories are equipped with sophisticated and modern equipment costing more than Rs. 70 lakhs. The significant equipment in the laboratories include Spectrum Analyzer, Digital Storage Oscilloscopes, Spartan 3E (FPGA) kits, 8086 and 8051 kits, etc. The labs are also equipped with Softwares like MATLAB with Toolboxes, Simulink, MULTISIM, VHDL, Xilinx ISE Foundation and Mentor Graphics Tools.
