“Biotechnology – a creative way by which Scientist can use nature to improve Human lives”. The field of Biotechnology is the revolution of the 21st Century and it has been elevated to the status of an Engineering discipline. The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2002 offering B.Tech (Biotechnology) with an intake of 30. The Department started M.Tech program in Biotechnology from the academic year 2010–11 with an intake of 18. The Department is headed by Prof. T. Hari Prasad, who has excellent Research and Teaching experience and assisted by 09 faculty members. The Department has applied for National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

The department has full fledged assistance and technological feed back for strengthening the areas of Research and Development from Santha Biotech, Hyderabad, S.V.University, Tirupathi and Sugen Life Sciences, Tirupathi. The Laboratories are well equipped to meet the requirements of Molecular biology, Genetic Engineering, Analytical Techniques in Biotechnology, Immuno-techniques, Plant Tissue culture, Bioprocess Engineering, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry and Microbiology.

The Department conducts regular counseling and personality development sessions to explore the hidden talents of the students for improving the visualization, presentation capabilities, communication skills and leadership qualities. The Association of Bio-Technologists (ABT) encourages students and faculty to present papers in conferences/seminars and to attend workshops, participate in Sports and Cultural activities.

OBJECTIVES

• To offer add-on/diploma/certificate courses in various fields of Biotechnology.
• To adopt novel teaching-learning methods.
• To conduct practical exercises for students to equip them in advanced skills required by the industry.
• To enter into MoUs with leading industries in India and abroad for knowledge transfer, faculty exchange, research and consultancy.
• To organize Seminars/Conferences/Workshops at National and International level in allied fields of Biotechnology.
• To establish a State-Of-The-Art research centre in Biotechnology and life sciences.
